This statement follows Romania’s recent decision to destroy a naval drone that was reportedly approaching its exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea.

The Romanian Defence Minister, Radu Miruță, confirmed that the drone was intercepted and destroyed by F-16 fighter jets as it neared the Neptun Deep offshore gas project. This action underscores the heightened tensions in the region, particularly in light of ongoing geopolitical conflicts.

In her remarks, von der Leyen emphasized the importance of unity within the EU, stating, «An escalating campaign of threats is underway, unsettling our citizens and seeking to divide our Union.
